Richard’s Wooden Boat

Richard Makin has been experiencing loneliness throughout the lockdown. He’s feeling a bit sad because he can’t visit his friends and family because of the restrictions.

So to help ease Richard’s loneliness and keep him entertained, we accompanied him to a woodwork program where he enjoyed learning how to make items from wood and build wooden toys.

At the centre, Richard learned how to build his own toy boat. He created, sanded, sculpted, and painted the wooden boat which he named and dedicated to his beautiful mother, Rosemary, whom he missed terribly.

After the lockdown restrictions were lifted, Richard immediately visited her mom in Woy Woy to show his wooden toy. Rosemary was delighted to see Richard again and very proud of his son’s masterpiece.

We are incredibly proud of Richard’s resilience and how hard he worked on this little project that brings him joy. We’re happy that even in uncertain times like this, he still managed to learn new things and enjoy.

Job well done, Richard! We’re excited to see what other creative masterpieces you’re going to build in the future.
